President Kenyatta has spoken out on supporting Deputy President William Ruto’s presidential bid.
Speaking on Friday at Sagana State Lodge, where he met over 500 MCAs drawn from 10 counties, Uhuru stated that he has never publicly declared that he would renege on his promise to back Ruto in 2022.
“I have never said I would not support William Ruto, why do you keep insulting me? Yes, I said ten years for me and ten years for Ruto, but has my term ended?” Uhuru posed.
He added: “I brought Ruto onboard to ensure there is peace in this country.”
He said his main focus for the remainder of his final term is to ensure that the country is united and there is no more bloodshed after elections.
“I have been busy with work, doing what you asked me to do. The rest have been making noise,” Uhuru remarked.
During the meeting, MCAs from Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Nyandarua, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, Laikipia, and Nakuru counties declared their support for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
The ward representatives promised to pass the BBI Constitutional Amendment Bill, 2020, which was this week sent to all the 47 county assemblies by IEBC for debate.
Uhuru arrived at Sagana State Lodge on Friday morning ahead of his four-day tour of the Mt. Kenya region.
During the visit, the president will launch several complete national government projects and inspect ongoing programs.
He is also expected to hold meetings with Central Kenya leaders and residents to discuss various issues including the Big Four Agenda, the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), curriculum reforms, and the fight against COVID-19.

Before handshake, our country was in deep trouble. We were at the brink of a civil war. Raila had betrayed the NASA dummies {Weta, Kalooza Muda} and had joined hands with his blood thirsty undisciplined goons; Orengo, Migunax2 and Kajwaang plus the Coast ODM mouth piece Joho. I agree with your observation 100%. If elders are holding a material discussion and a lad in their midst is persistently getting on their nerves with noise, the elderly usually slice a piece of African sausage (mutura) and give it to the lad. Hence, they direct lad to go eat it afar, and that way the elders get space to discuss the important matter being tabled. This befits the Uhuru/Raila handshake.
