A senior police officer was on Wednesday arraigned in court for allegedly sodomizing six boys.
John Kimathi Marete, who is the Officer Commanding Police Station (OCS) in charge of Ntumu police station in Tharaka-Nithi County appeared before Embu Senior Resident Magistrate Tony Kwambai.
He was charged with sodomizing six boys, indecently touching their genitals, and showing them phonographic videos.
The charge sheet read that the accused deliberately and willfully sodomized six boys aged between 12 and 16 years on diverse dates between 2017 and December 2020 at Chogoria sub-location.
He faced another count of unlawfully and intentionally exposing three boys aged 16 years to phonographic tapes on December 21st, 2020.
Marete denied all the charges leveled against him and applied to be released on bond pending the hearing and determination of the case.
But the prosecution strongly opposed the application arguing that he would interfere with investigations and witnesses given that he is a senior police officer.
The court heard that the accused had already attempted to tamper with investigations by sending proxies to one of his victims.
Marete will remain in custody until January 15th when the court will make a ruling on his application for bond.
The six boys were rescued from Marete’s house by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) following a tip-off from a member of the public.
During the December 22nd operation, the teenagers were found sleeping on the floor in Marete’s house in Chogoria where they had been locked.
