Kenyan Man Sentenced to Death by Somalia's Military Court

A Kenyan man has been sentenced to death by Somalia’s military court over links to an international terror organization.

28-year-old Aden Mohamed, who was born in Wajir County, was found guilty of fighting for an affiliate of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in Somalia since 2017, according to Garowe Online.

Aden was sentenced by the military court in Somalia’s Puntland regional state on Thursday alongside two Somali nationals, Abhir Mohamed and Mohamud Shiniyow.

The two were convicted of perpetrating terror attacks in Puntland state and assassinations in other states in Somalia and were handed a 20-year jail term each. The three can still appeal against the sentences.

There has been an increase in the number of Kenyan youths crossing over to Somalia to become fighters for various terror groups such as Al-Shabaab.
