Raila Takes a Swipe at DP William Ruto over 'Hustler' Tag

ODM leader Raila Odinga has taken a jab at Deputy President William Ruto for calling himself a ‘hustler.’

Ruto, who is seeking to succeed President Kenyatta, has been using the term to endear himself to voters ahead of the 2022 presidential election. He has in the past stated that the 2022 succession battle will be between hustlers and dynasties.

But speaking on Saturday, Raila noted that three Kenyan presidents including Jomo Kenyatta, Daniel Moi, and Mwai Kibaki were all hustlers as they hailed from humble backgrounds.

“I’m the son of the late Jaramogi Odinga, his father was a peasant, look at all the Kenyan presidents, Kenyatta, Kibaki and Moi, they all began poor, they were all hustlers,” Raila said.

Odinga, who spoke at the home of Nominated MP Wilson Sossion in Bomet on Saturday, said DP Ruto should sell his manifesto to the electorate, adding that the term hustler is not new to Kenyan politics.

“We should not be telling Kenyans about poverty, our politics should be about our manifestos and what we will do for the people of Kenya,” he remarked.

He also used the opportunity to drum up support for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) and the push for a referendum to amend the 2010 constitution. He said BBI will ensure counties receive a bigger portion of the national revenue cake.

Raila had joined Sossion’s family in celebrating his daughter’s admission to the bar, becoming the first female lawyer in Motigo village.

  1. The Hustler tag is a mere…
The Hustler tag is a mere insult to Kenyans by Ruto. It is a symbol of one man (Ruto) who stole poor people’s billions of shillings to enrich himself.

He is now trying to trickle pennies back to the poor in exchange to votes while making sure the voters do not amount to anything worthy of any pride.

Ruto is just trying to buy votes from the poor by using the money he stole from them! What an irony for Ruto to sarcastically refer to the masses as the hustlers? What a shame!

  2. Ruto is just dividing…
Ruto is just dividing Kenyans for his political expediency! He has created a dividing narrative to make himself look like her is working for the average Joe while that is not the case! Ruto will deceive the mentally weak with some cheap token change like buying a motorcycle for a malanga. It is a shame that the youth are falling for such scams!

  3. Raila is right. We want…
Raila is right. We want someone who comes from a humble background like Kibaki, to be our next president. We don’t want sons of presidents, vice-president or cabinet ministers. We’re tired of recycling eaters and corrupt people with a sense of entitlement. Corrupt thieves who have tasted stolen money, kickbacks and money from undelivered fake services can’t change. They’re suffering from corruption pandemic that has no cure. Remember the story of the fox and the farmer: Once the fox tasted his first chicken, the only way to stop him was to shoot him.

  4. Ruto is crueless where he…
Ruto is crueless where he wants to take Kenya, except the fact that he wants to grab power to protect himself and his corruption interests across Kenya!

Look at the grabbed lands such a Weston hotel land and many others! Outright theft of Muteshi land.

Look at how many people have been killed (Yebei, Juma, Msando, Kenei, Mwikali, women and children of Kiambaa, etc) at the mere instructions of DP Ruto!

Think of how many more Kenyans will be killed when Ruto is president? Ruto is purely a dangerous man and should not be trusted with power in Kenya!

  5. Is Ruto’s face a good…
Is Ruto’s face a good indication of a trustworthy character to be a leader of a developing country while we all know his shady behavior of stealing everything that he gets his hands on? Murkomen, another thief recently compared his dirty thieving hands with Ruto’s even dirtier hands when it comes to corruption! Is this kind of gaming of people’s resources what Kenyans want in a president?? Raila is right that we need a humble president and not a known thief with a hustler hash tag to confuse Kenyans! Those you see joining Ruto are simply doing do because if their desire to continue stealing from our coffers! We are at a serious cross roads where we must make good de idioms to liberate our country!
