Kenya on Sunday registered 83 new cases of Covid-19, pushing the total number of infections to 35,103.
This is the first time the country is recording a double-digit since the early months of the disease’s outbreak and raises hopes of flattening the infection curve.
72 of the new patients are Kenyans while six are foreigners living in the country with 58 being males and 25 females. The youngest patient is one-year-old while the oldest is 85.
Nairobi county posted the highest number of new cases with 27, followed by Busia (15), Kisumu (12), Nakuru (7), Machakos (7), Kiambu 5, Laikipia (3), Kisii (3), Kirinyaga (1), Mombasa (10, Nyandarua (1), and Uasin Gishu (1).
The Health Ministry said the 83 new infections were detected from 3,093 samples tested in the past 24 hours. The overall number of samples tested for Covid-19 in the country since the first case was confirmed on March 13th stands at 474,477.
The tally of coronavirus recoveries increased by 72 to 21,230 while the death toll jumped to 597 after three more patients succumbed to the disease.
