Kenyan Boys Aged 5 and 7 Die After Botched Traditional Circumcision

Police in Kitui County are investigating an incident where two minors lost their lives following a botched circumcision.

The two boys aged five and seven died at their parents’ home in Lundi village in Mwingi East, Kitui County on Friday evening.

Reports indicate the brothers bled to death without receiving any medical help since their parents are members of the Kavonokia sect, which forbids its faithful from visiting hospitals.

A 70-year-old circumciser who performed the failed surgical operation has since been arrested as investigations continue.

The bodies of the two children were moved to Mwingi Level Four Hospital pending postmortem examination.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe recently urged traditional elders to postpone this year’s initiation ceremonies due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“It is better to have a postponed initiation ceremony than have somebody to initiate or carry out an initiation ceremony and kill our young men,” CS Kagwe said.

  1. 453 males died of…
453 males died of circumcision in just one South African province in a seven year period, and there were also 214 pen-le amputations. Google “ulwaluko” for gruesome photos of the results. The sooner this bizarre and outdated tradition dies out, the better. No-one becomes a man by having parts of their manhood cut off anyway.

I couldn’t agree more! Old beliefs without no real scientific backups need to end! Being shot does not make you a macho man and cutting off a small piece of of one’s penis doesn’t make you a man. You are a MAN once you are born a man period!

Thats a tradition and it is important and should be respected. There has to be a better way to do this ritual. That cut though is crucial.

This is crime against humanity destroying girls and boys sex organs. UHURU should be banned in United Nations.

@ wisecounsel, these are traditions that should be respected and honored. Just because the west doesn’t believe in it, it does not become a crime. How many black men, like Emmett Till, George Floyd and others are lyched and sacrificed in the west? Should this sacrificing of black men be acceptable? Those are two dead boys, should we start counting how many black men have died? The question becomes, under whose knee do black men die and in this case who should be banned from United Nations (divided nations).

It’s okay to uphold some traditions but we need to do away with some.

In fact, Scientists say that being circumcised provides more protection against STDs than wearing a condom. And I am only talking of removing the foreskin from a male. The health benefits of this exist, are Scientifically proven.

The AAP is waaay out of line with doctors in other countries. This is what some other national medical organizations say:

        Canadian Paediatric Society
        http://www.cps.ca/en/media/canadian-paediatricians-revisit-newborn-male-circumcision-recommendations
“OTTAWA— In an updated statement released today, the Canadian Paediatric Society (CPS) continues to recommend against the routine circumcision of newborn males.”

        Royal Australasian College of Physicians
        http://www.racp.edu.au/docs/default-source/advocacy-library/circumcision-of-infant-males.pdf
“After reviewing the currently available evidence, the RACP believes that the frequency of diseases modifiable by circumcision, the level of protection offered by circumcision and the complication rates of circumcision do not warrant routine infant circumcision in Australia and New Zealand.”
(almost all the men responsible for this statement will be circumcised themselves, as the male circumcision rate in Australia in 1950 was about 90%. “Routine” circumcision is now *banned* in public hospitals in Australia.)

        British Medical Association
        http://bma.org.uk/-/media/Files/PDFs/Practical%20advice%20at%20work/Ethics/Circumcision.pdf
“to circumcise for therapeutic reasons where medical research has shown other techniques to be at least as effective and less invasive would be unethical and inappropriate.”
“The medical benefits previously claimed, however, have not been convincingly proven, and it is now widely accepted, including by the BMA, that this surgical procedure has medical and psychological risks.”

        Danish Medical Association
        http://www.thelocal.dk/20161205/danish-doctors-come-out-against-circumcision
“The Danish Medical Association (Lægeforeningen) has recommended that no boys under the age of 18 be circumcised in Denmark.
The association released its recommendation on Friday, saying that circumcision should be “an informed, personal choice” that young men should make for themselves.”

        Swedish Paediatric Society

(very long, but very much against circumcision, and includes the following)
“Therefore it is not understandable that circumcision of boys should be allowed but that of girls prohibited worldwide. Male circumcision is basically comparable with FGM types Ia and Ib that the Schafi Islamic school of law supports”

    • Read the Science, @Wisdom…
Read the Science, @Wisdom needed. Cutting off the foreskin reduces the risk of infection from STDs, including HIV, by more than 70 percent. This is the backup. Even if you do not believe in the tradition, you ignore science at your own risk.

  6. I suspect that Wisecounsel…
I suspect that Wisecounsel and Mark must be Luos, who do not believe in
the circumcision of cutting off the foreskin. Besides the traditional importance, it has proven medical and hygenic importance. It is also known to prevent HIV infection. The medical reasons are the main reasons that white men, apart from Jews, go through the procedure.

  7. This is God’s Covenant with…
This is God’s Covenant with man, black man.(Hebrew Israelites) It cannot be stopped not by power of foreign law and not by the power of the sword (gun). We have traveled this road before with the colonizers. They maimed, killed, lynched, stole and did all manner of evil but could not stop a people’s culture. Times are here to uphold God’s law. Black man’s spiritual awakening is here and cannot be stopped.
This could be part of the ultimate divide between nations at war (black nation vs. all others)

  8. We have been on this road…
We have been on this road before with the colonizers. They maimed, killed, lynched and all manner of destruction to destroy or stop this part of a black man’s culture (Hebrew Israelites) Covenant with God. There is no power either of a sword or money that can stop a people’s culture and believe.
This is spiritual, and for those who have no understanding, its better to leave this issue alone.
Just like with our forefathers, foreigners can never win a spiritual battle.
Let God’s Masterplan unfold and God’s people be released from Pharaohs knee!!

  9. If these two young boys had…
If these two young boys had not died this matter would not be gathering media attention. The issue here is safety. There was no reason what so ever for these boys to bleed to death. I would think that any reasonable adult there would have seen how much the young boys had bled, and done something. Traditions are like habits. We have good, and bad habits.Drinking alcohol to some is a bad habit, and to others its no big deal, that is when all other else is equal.Yes let’s respect all customs and traditions they are the glue that bound as together in a community, or society.Attrition education and in evitable wind of change will wear out the bad customs.

  10. The problem is that they don…
The problem is that they don’t get circumsized in hospitals. Let doctors do it
