A section of leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto on Sunday held prayers for jailed Sirisia MP John Waluke.
Waluke was this month handed a 67-year prison sentence or a fine of nearly Sh1 billion after he was found guilty of defrauding the National Cereals and Produce Board of over Sh300 million.
Led by former Kakamega Senator Bonny Khhalwale, a section of Western Kenya leaders supporting DP Ruto converged at Waluke’s home in Sirisia to pray for him as he plans to appeal the conviction and sentencing.
Waluke, who is incarcerated at Industrial Area Remand Prison, is appealing the sentencing on grounds of impartiality, inconsistencies, contradictions, and lack of independence in arriving at the guilty verdict.
He also claims that the conviction was based on a defective charge sheet and that critical witnesses were never called to testify in the case that was heard within two years.
Waluke was convicted and sentenced alongside his co-accused Grace Wakhungu.
Other leaders who attended the prayer session include Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali, Bumula MP Mwambu Mabonga, and Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama.

Maombi yamo kwenye idara ya ushirikina (superstition). Kuomba ni kupoteza wakati wako kwa sababu maombi hayasaidii kitu chochote. Kama huamini ya kwamba maombi ni mambo ya ushirikina, nakuomba umwombe unayemwamini ili amalize virusi vya korona sasa hivi!
Wakati wa sasa, tunahitaji kutumia maarifa yote kutokana na wanasayansi ili kuangamiza virusi vya korona. Kwa hiyo, nawaomba wanasiasa, wanasheria, na viongozi wote wa idara ya ushirikina (dini) wawape nafasi wanasayansi wajihusishe kwa kumaliza virusi hivi bila kupingwa kwa njia yoyote.
Ndugu Khalwale, nakuomba urudi kwenye kazi yako ya kuwatibu wagonjwa na uwache kutupa mawe ovyo na kufuatana na siasa chafu ambazo zinaweza kuiangamiza nchi yetu tukufu ya Kenya kwenye siku za usoni. Kila la kheri.
