Former MP, Presidential Aspirant Kimani Wa Nyoike Passes Away in Nairobi

Veteran Kenyan politician and former South Kinangop MP Kimani Wa Nyoike has died at the age of 85, his family has said.

Kimani, who also unsuccessfully vied for president in 1997, passed away on Wednesday, April 29th, while undergoing treatment at a Nairobi hospital. He had been battling an undisclosed illness for a long period.

Kimani, a former political detainee and trade unionist, ran for president in 1997 on a Ford People ticket.

On Wednesday, President Kenyatta sent a message of condolence to the family, friends, and relatives of Kimani, describing him as a vibrant and fearless leader who spoke his mind at all times.

“Kimani Wa Nyoike was a brilliant and steadfast politician who never shied away from expressing his views on issues of national importance. He was a firm believer in social justice,” said Uhuru.

Kenyatta added that the deceased distinguished himself as a fierce defender of multi-party democracy and the rule of law.

“We will forever remember Hon Wa Nyoike as a progressive politician who helped shepherd multi-party democracy in our country,” noted Uhuru.
