Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has announced the confirmation of five additional coronavirus cases in the country.
This brings the total number of Covid-19 infections in Kenya to 184 from 179 on Wednesday.
In a media briefing at Afya House, CS Kagwe indicated that the five patients include three Kenyans and two foreign nationals.
Three of the five patients recently traveled from Tanzania while the other two returned to the country from the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Three of the new cases were recorded in Nairobi County and two in Mombasa.
“Only one of these cases came from mandatory quarantine facilities while the other four were picked by our surveillance teams from contact tracing,” said Kagwe.
The five new patients include three males and two females, all aged between 39 and 77 years.
CS Kagwe further announced that four more Covid-19 patients had recovered from the infection, raising the total number of recoveries to 12.
The death toll from the virus also climbed seven after one more patient succumbed to the illness in Mombasa.
