Raphael Tuju Flown to the UK for Specialized Treatment

Jubilee Secretary-General Raphael Tuju was on Thursday flown to the United Kingdom for further treatment following the February 12th road accident, the ruling party said.

Tuju was traveling to Kabarak, Nakuru County for the burial of the late former president Daniel Arap Moi when his vehicle collided head-on with a matatu at Magina area on the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.

He was rushed to Kijabe Mission Hospital for emergency treatment and later airlifted to Karen Hospital in Nairobi, where he has been since then.

In a statement on Thursday, Jubilee communications director Alex Memusi said the decision to fly Tuju abroad for treatment was made by his family after consultations with his doctors.

“The party is in close and constant communication with the family to monitor every progress made and will continue giving progress reports on his condition,” read the statement,

“The party requests that we continue to pray for his quick recovery.”

Memusi added that Tuju, who also serves as a Cabinet Secretary without a portfolio, had been transferred from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to the ward after an improvement in his health was noticed over the last few days.

In an update on Tuju’s condition last Monday, Memusi noted that he “is conscious and fully in control of his limbs just as he was when he walked into the accident and emergency section of Kijabe Hospital.”

He also disclosed that doctors had immobilized him to avoid the risk of aggravating the injuries he suffered in the accident.

  1. Rushed, airlifted, flown…
Rushed, airlifted, flown…all verbs that will not happen to regular Kenyan. Stupid voters work hard daily to provide not for self or theirs but for select thugs in government. Tell us more about healthcare facilities…

  2. Ordinary Kenyans never learn…
Ordinary Kenyans never learn a lasting life lesson about the desperate state of their health-care facilities, and medical staff when situations like this one unfold right in their face!

How many Kenyans have been evacuated to England after a fatal road accident to received specialized medical treatment?

Voters continue to vote for those who could care less about the services Kenyans receive.

It is about time to lay the whole blame on the voters themselves for the poor choices they make every election cycle.

    • I agree with this sentiment…
I agree with this sentiment. Kenyans are very good at apportioning blame, especially to those in leadership positions. The truth is that we are all to blame, beginning with the Voter. We condemn corruption in public, then elect into office only those who are good at it. We condemn and rebuke in public, but adore in secret. People like Passaris were going abroad for medical treatment, even before they were elected. People knew this, but chose her, instead of a ‘Wanjiku’, who goes to KNH for treatment. What did they expect? Aren’t they the ones who voted for her, knowing full well all her attributes? Ask not what your government can do for you, because as a voter, you are the government. Ask what you can do for the government.

  3. These Politicians believe…
These Politicians believe that going abroad is the Key to their treatment.Unfortunately, I have seen many unsuccessful cases. I pray for Rafael Tuju to recover above all! We have great doctor’s in Kenya too, you all just have to trust them.I have seen Kenyan Doctors doing fantastic work on reviving patients.

After all, hawa mapoliticians wanaenda kutibiwa nchi za wazungu and wanasahau ni weusi. And I see this being common with Kenyan men politicians.

Tibiwa nyumbani and believe in our Kenyan doctors!!!! They can do it too and they are capable.

    • @sue – both males and…
@sue – both males and females – late Lebosa, Passaris, etc! The issue is, what about those Kenyans who cannot afford treatment overseas?

I agree with you that male politicians are the worst in humping a plane to head on abroad to be treated for common cold!

Worse still is the fact that those who get evacuated overseas do so at the colossal cost to the ordinary tax payers!

While the perception is still bad, no one would complain if the politicians paid for the hefty overseas cost out of their own pocket!

  4. They loot the money meant to…
They loot the money meant to improve health care in Kenya then use taxes to fly to western countries for treatment! I am praying for him!
