Sleuths from Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have launched a hunt for three Kenyan men accused of kidnapping, assaulting and robbing an American national in Nairobi.
The three suspects are said to have deceived the American man identified as Philipe Chiliade, who lives in South Africa, to travel to Kenya before they turned against him, according to Nairobi News.
They allegedly abducted him when he arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and took him to their rented room in Pipeline Estate where they assaulted and robbed him.
Chiliade, who is presently nursing injuries from the beating, told police that he traveled to Kenya on the invitation of his Facebook friends who picked him at JKIA using a taxi on November 28th and took him to their house.
The suspects later invited a relative, Fredrick Muendo Mutua to prepare a meal for Chiliade and escort him to the airport after they escaped with an unknown amount of money in US Dollars, two mobile phones, and a Visa card. Chiliade raised alarm while Mutua was taking him to JKIA, leading to Mutua being arrested by members of the public.
On Monday, police obtained orders from Makadara Law Courts to detain Mutua for five days pending completion of investigations into the incident. The search for the three suspects is ongoing.
