Ben Githae Refuses to Apologize over ‘UhuruRuto Tano Tena’ Song

Gospel singer Ben Githae has refused to apologize to Kenyans over his “Uhuru Ruto Tano Tena” song used by ruling Jubilee party during the 2017 presidential campaigns.

A section of Kenyans on social media, who decried the current state of the nation, demanded an apology from the “Timiza” hit-maker, saying that he contributed to the re-election of the Jubilee government.

Lion Mungai said: “Who know where Ben Githae lives?? I wanna whip him so badly for taking part in convincing me to vote for tano tena. Lakini miaka tano itaisha tu na Uhuru Kenyatta  ataenda tu home na mlete Willian Ruto.  By then ntakua nishapanda kenya airways hapo kwa wings on my way to badlands.”

Okumu Ken stated: “Can we ALL agree to have Ben Githae’s Tano tena song on repeat these festivities; to remind ourselves what shit we got ourselves into. Doesn’t matter if you voted for them or not. Iwe like a retrospective moment for a better personal and collective decision making 2020.”

James Ng’ang’a said: “Ezekiel Mutua you should ban this song, the phrase Tano Tena is worse than Wamlambez.”

Moses Ngigi noted: “Mpendwa, aka Baba Daisy should release a seven minutes apology hit song so that we can forgive him for misleading us. I personally apologized for voting three times in favor of the duo [UhuruRuto].”

In response, Githae said he had no apologies to make and explained that President Kenyatta’s party did not contract him to compose the song.

“I saw an opportunity and seized it. I said to myself that I do not have money to support the presidential campaigns but I have a gift I can use. So why not do a song, record a simple video for it and share it amongst the people to test its reception?” he told Daily Nation.

He further dismissed claims that the song influenced many Kenyans into voting for President Kenyatta.

“The president was voted for by over 8 million Kenyans, the ones claiming my song guided their choice of candidates are lying. How can such a huge mass be influenced by a person of my stature?”

Githae urged Kenyatta to focus on improving the lives of Kenyans and send home those who are failing his administration.

If a song convinced you to vote for some then we’re in mafi ya juju… Does mean that you jacks off whenever pekoe Jen gets plays.

Nonsense! Campaigns in any form are geared to convince you to vote, swing in favour of the campaign. If one is easily swayed by gold plated mitumba, then it’s their choice! Can’t turn back and blame others! Ujinga hauna dawa. Ben Githae owes no one an apology. He made coins in this and that was his intention. Period. Now if they were protesting about how he conned the composer of this song, then I would jump on their bandwagon!
