Three people suspected to be members of a notorious Nairobi car theft syndicate have been arrested.

The suspects; Francis Kinyanjui, 53, Stephen Njoroge, 33, and Gladys Wanjiku, 36, were arrested at West View Plaza in Kahawa West on Saturday.

In a statement, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the three are part of a gang that has been terrorizing residents of Kasarani and Roysambu.

“The three allegedly steal vehicles from members of the public after stupefying them during drinking in nightclubs,” said DCI.
Area OCPD Peter Kimani said Stephen Njoroge, who they have been tracing for a long time, is the leader of the gang that has stolen several vehicles in the area.

Kasarani DCIO Mwenda Meme said detectives launched undercover investigations following numerous complaints from area residents.

Police confiscated two stolen vehicles, several smartphones, SIM cards, and psychotropic drugs during the Saturday operation. Police also launched hunt for a fourth suspect who is still at large.

The three suspects are being detained at Kasarani Police Station pending arraignment in court next week.
