Public Service Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rachel Shebesh has revealed the person behind the historic handshake between President Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Shebesh claims that Ida Odinga, the wife of Raila, brought the two leaders together for talks that culminated to the famous handshake.
The former Nairobi Woman Representative says Ida should be the one receiving credit for the unity pact that cooled political temperatures following the acrimonious 2017 presidential elections.
“We’re giving too much credit to Uhuru and Raila, I want to tell you the truth today. The handshake between Uhuru and Raila came from Mama Ida,” says Shebesh in a video obtained by Citizen TV.
“Because Uhuru told me that if it was not for Mama Ida, he would not have sat down with Raila and he (Raila) would not have listened to him because the tension was high.”
Shebesh has praised the peace initiative between Kenyatta and Odinga, noting that it has brought peace and stability to the country.
“I am happy that I can now go to Gem and Khwisero and Kisumu without fear, I would not have passed there before (the handshake),” Shebesh notes.
