Kenyans Online React as 91-Year-Old Former Kenya Vice President Moody Awori Lands Gov't Job

News that former Kenyan Vice President Moody Awori has landed a government job has left Kenyans online perplexed.

The 91-year-old has reportedly been appointed as a board member of the newly formed Sports, Arts and Social Development Fund.

Names of the seven-member oversight board have been revealed in a gazette notice published by National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich.

The team comprises of five Principal Secretaries drawn from ministries of Education, Arts, Health, National Treasury and Sports and will be work together with Athletics Kenya chairman Jackson Tuwei and Awori.

The main functions of the board include managing the fund as well as preparing and tabling quarterly reports to the Treasury CS.

Here’s what Kenyans online have to say about Awori’s appointed.

@RobertAlai says: “Moody Awori getting appointed on boards is a GREAT insult to the youth of this country by @UKenyatta
How does someone support this? Methuselah!”

Lord Abraham Mutai notes: “Moody Awori is 91years old. He is making a comeback to public service as a board member while his 94year old counterpart in Kabarak is enjoying his retirement and pension with peace. Something is fundamentally wrong in this country. Who really advises leaders in this country.”

@ItsKubasu tweets: “Moody Awori now being given a state job when we have young energetic lads that can do the job….91 yrs for Gods sake..Then you’ll here some idiot somewhere saying that the government is empowering the youths..HOW??? We’re just doomed as Africans.”

@fdr_maina says: “We joke a lot in this country yawa..is there a drop of conscience or sense of decency among kenyan politicians?? If there was the likes of “Moody Awori” would be happily enjoying the sunset days of their lives..not grabbing jobs for their great grandchildren.”

@Sam_Lulli notes:”No hate to uncle Moody Awori but at that age? Is there no one else I mean 91 year old man should be retired, enjoying his pensions.”

@PeterkinNzomo tweets: “When I see people of Moody Awori’s age trending I first think of death. But he seems to be still young for a government job.smh #MoodyAwori.”

Johneliakim says: This country!!! Surely at 91? We appreciate the contributions made by former VP – Moody Awori but his appointment is irritating to the core.”

@el_dineropesa notes: ” I swear when I saw 91 yr old Moody Awori trending I thought something natural had happened to him. I wonder when my 89 yr old grandma will replace Joe Mucheru at the ICT docket. Or is it just for the patriarchs.”

It’s okey. Why are you opposed to his appointment yet many of you have said nothing to the 354 younger thugs(MPS and Senators) intention to increase their salaries?Let him also EAT your money through the useless/poop fund.It was better if people opposed the starting of the money minting fund itself.

91? you must be kidding that they are giving somebody who is 91 yrs old a job.

    • Looking at his…
Looking at his accomplishments this man does not need the money to do this job. I would imagine he just wants to feel useful or helpful. There is nothing wrong with him volunteering his services to help the Nation. That said something is very wrong with him accepting this position for pay while kids of his great grandchildren age are walking around without a job. It is a shame.

How many potential candidates were considered?.Give him 20 year contract. Many with 60 years of experience is a national treasure…ofcourse I say this with tongue in cheek.

  4. In accordance with the…
In accordance with the highest life expectancy in the world, (Monaco- country: 89.52 years),Moody is a dead man walking. Jobs belong with the living and especially those who need them most. Giving a 91 year old rich man a job is a silly act of nepotism, irresponsibility and abuse of power. In fact, this is a form of corruption!

Gotta laugh coz those tweets are way too funny! Unless we do something drastic like protesting and holding our government accountable, we will be here tweeting, complaining and commenting everyday till we die. We need to put our words into actions. Start with mass countrywide protest that will put a spotlight on Kenya’s deep rooted corruption and thievery.

I am not ageist, lakini this is a little much. With the country heaving with unemployed graduates, this really is taking a mickey! Amekula pension, kafilisika, sasa yuaja kunyemelea maziwa ya watoto?! Aibu tele!

This is not our Kenya. What sort of expertise does he possess that is so rare that we can’t live without it. We have millions of qualified young Kenyans who can do this job. What a joke. Sad and pathetic. What kind of nonsense is this. Stop recycling old fools.

Uhuru was voted to enrich the rich. He will leave a vacuum which will take Kenya back to basic. It is not only Awori, his cousin Beth Mugo nominated senator is over 80Years mrs Saitoti and other old former mps or their sons/daughter they are board members of some parastatal or the other with monthly salary of kes 70,000 and extras . This is what Uhuru is president for to enrich the rich and leave the rest of us to go to Hell (sic)

  10. This is a sad story. It is…
This is a sad story. It is no longer funny. It is a road map to where our country is going unless we are willing to change course. Instead of training the young ones to take over and offer them full support and wisdom wholeheartedly, we are ignoring the young ones and allowing the older ones to retire in peace. No wonder Kenya as a country is stuck. We have been recycling same old stale brains. In African culture, we have age groups and each group has a certain responsibility. By the time you are 91 years old, your job is to advice and guide the young ones not to take their job. The young ones need jobs to raise their families. Mood Awori’s job should have been given to his grand kids. This is a very bad indicator of where our country is going. God give Kenya leaders not politicians. God help Kenya!!

My sources tell me that ,this appointment is a trial ballon,to gauge his reception as he reenters the public domain, ahead of the 2022 Elections.
If the ballon floats well, he will publicly declair his intentions:and this is to run for the presidency of Kenya.
When Uhuru said that his choice would suprise many, we certainly wasn’t kidding.

  16. @Ndugu Imara Daima,In Kenya…
@Ndugu Imara Daima,In Kenya the electorate has not reached that level where they vote solely on principle or ideology.Numerous times we have seen crooks elected time and again despite their criminal history, and debauchery to say the least.
Majority of voters are are still on that level of basic needs as Abraham Maslow puts it.And our politicians know this and take full advantage of.Promise the voter free stuff, spread afew trinkets as you campaign, spend money .Basically spend money on voters not on institutions. This way the voters have a direct and instant benefit. Now contract that with someone whose basic needs are met:that is shelter, food, and health. That person will be more Inclined to vote on principle without fear of losing basic needs. Therefore to answer your question.Wenye mali will rule…for now. But as the masses get enlightened, and their basic needs met ,politicians, will have to deliver or voted out. And this may be why they are clamoring for more money and benefts. Essentially get out of the house with what you can before it catches fire.My two cents.
