Forbes Ranks Safaricom as Africa's Best Employer, 67th Globally

Kenya’s giant telecommunications firm Safaricom has been ranked the 67th best employer in the world, and position one in Africa.

This was revealed in the newly released Forbes’ Global 2000 list of the World’s Best Employers.

The ranking shows that Safaricom had a total of 5,434 employees as of June 6th while its market capital stood at a staggering $11.1 billion.

In the study, Forbes asked respondents to rate their employer and the likelihood they would recommend a friend or family member to seek employment at the company.

“They were also asked to recommend other employers they admired,” Forbes’ website reads. 

Safaricom appeared in the the top 100 list that was dominated by American companies including Google parent company Alphabet, Walt Disney, Apple, Microsoft and Amazon.com. 

“Companies on the Best Employers list have high approval in areas including image, working conditions and diversity,” Forbes website reads. 

“Out of the top 500 employers, 185 US companies made the list. Only 80 companies from China and Hong Kong were featured on the list.”

Forbes said more than 430,000 global recommendations were analysed by Statista to create the list of World Best Employers.

Naspers was the second best employer in Africa (224th globally) followed by First Rand (432) and Sanlam (457), all from South Africa.

    Was this a competition of foreign companies in Africa? Were African or Kenyan based companies included or they just did not make the list?
