President Kenyatta has been appointed as the global champion of the United Nations young people’s agenda.
Kenyatta was unanimously endorsed for the role during the ongoing 73rd session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, United States on Monday.
In the youth initiative, the UN is seeking to get 1.8 billion young persons around the world into quality education, training or employment by 2030. The new initiative is a partnership between the United Nations Youth Strategy 2030 and Generation Unlimited.
“We do not champion the cause of youth opportunity and hope as a favour, but rather as the necessary, undeniable, embrace of our collective future,” President Uhuru said in his acceptance speech.
“We must give young people education, and employment opportunities if our societies are to live up to their full promise,” Uhuru added.
Kenyatta pledged to champion for youth agenda and urged young people to take advantage of the new initiative.
“On your part, embrace your chance to lead by seizing the opportunity and turning it into tangible achievement. You must stand up, offer yourselves, dedicate yourselves, shoulder responsibility, and carry the world into the future,” he told the youth.
The program will focus on three main areas; secondary education; skills for learning, employability and decent work; and empowerment.

Case in point NYS. You should have reminded the Kenyan youth especially that they must learn to help themselves because your government has no time for them.
