President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged Kenyans in the diaspora to fly on Kenya Airways’ direct flights between Nairobi and New York, which are set to be launched on October 28th.
Kenyatta, who spoke when he attended a dinner hosted by Kenya Airways in New York on Sunday, appealed to Kenyans abroad to take advantage of the friendly rates offered by the national airline.
The president also hailed Kenyan Airways, its partners, and the US government for the efforts they put towards achieving the nonstop flights plan.
“On behalf of Kenyan people, I thank the United States Government for working closely with us to make this realization,” Uhuru said during the dinner hosted at Rockefeller Plaza.
Kenyatta urged travel operators and investors attending the dinner to seek partnerships to boost US investments in Kenya.
“To achieve this vision, I encourage Kenya Airways to scale up its services and become the airline of choice in a very competitive industry. My administration has given you a strong platform to excel,” the President said.
“We, therefore, expect the national carrier to seize the opportunity and become the true ‘Pride of Africa’,” he quipped.
He thanked the US for giving Kenya Airways a chance to participate in the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Advisory Programme.
“The programme will provide an on –site training and technical assistance on customs administration and border control for agencies that will handle Kenya Airways direct operations to the United States,” the President said.
Uhuru travelled to New York on Friday where he will be attending the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Accompanying the President to the dinner were Cabinet Secretaries Monica Juma (Foreign Affairs), Peter Munya (Industrialization), Transport Principal Secretary Esther Koimet among others.

Uhuru stop using diasporians as door mats. You have hiked the prices of passports yet you expect Kenyans to travel KQ in big numbers. You have limited destinations where diasporians can apply for the same passports now you want diasporians to cough some money to travel to those destinations with all their families. You know very well diasporians are keeping the shilling strong against the dollar hence helping the economy to stay afloat but you repay them by making it even harder for them to vote. You deport Miguna citing some kangaroo law yet you could have resolved this issue by other means instead of making a fool out of yourself…rather a cowardly act. What else would you like your “doormats” to do for you? Oh and you have no time to meet those who would want to air their concerns, right?

They should have study or learn from the south Africa airline,I wants flew as a proud african,thinking I was was proud of our own,with rude shock that greet me from their customers service ,empty plane from Newyork to south africa… then get yellow fever shot, yellow fever vaccination sheet after 14hrs across the atlatic… with dozen people on plane of 500 seat plane,,on that day I lean why Africans have never built anything that move. Board that grab call KQ and you will learn/and value western nation on how time is put before a plane take off, than that KQ so long us we reach newyork mentality with no service to the plane…I rest my case After fleeing that cabin for 14hrs I’m glad it went bankrupt it was a disaster in the making in Atlantic.

I flew KQ from Dubai and I must say I was not satisfied. The seats are small, I hope the ones bound for the US has comfortable seats and space. The entertainment sucks, it’s like everyone had to watch the same thing. Lastly KQ should fly out of Miami,& Orlando Florida and they should partner with Caribbean Airlines to bring Africans to the caribbeans

Funny, flew Ethiopian airlines the cabin service great until I missed my connecting flight because of their own delays. The customer service I’m addis was the worst and those people were so rude. I tell you now when it comes to flights get what you can afford and one that’s has many flights. So kwa ubaya I gave up with anything Africa when it comes to my money. Fly united, Swiss or British. You miss your flight for their faults they will refund your money that you spent and more to that will make sure they book you ok hotels and everything else to make their service stand out.
