Government Orders All Procurement, Accounting Heads to Vacate Office Immediately

All heads of procurement and accounting in public offices have been directed to step aside with immediate effect.

The order for the officials to vacate their offices comes even as the government continue to step up the war on corruption following recent revelations of multi-billion scandals in several state departments and institutions.

“All heads of procurement and accounting units in ministries, departments, agencies and state corporations have been instructed to step aside with immediate effect. Before they vacate, they have also been instructed to hand over to their immediate deputies,” reads a memo from Interior Ministry spokesman Mwenda Njoka.

The top officials are expected to undergo a lifestyle audit, which will determine whether they will resume their duties or will be fired.

“Further the officers are required to submit personal information to the Office of the Head of Public Service to be delivered by Friday, June 8, 2018 at Harambee House,” the circular continued.

They have been ordered to submit their personal information including their assets, liabilities and previous record of service.

“The exercise is geared towards determining suitability to continue holding office in the public trust and promote confidence in the public service,” added Njoka.

The move come days after President Kenyatta, declared that all procurement and accounting heads will undergo lie detector tests during a fresh vetting exercise in the next one month.

“All heads of procurement and accounts in government ministries, departments, agencies and parastatals will undergo fresh vetting including polygraph testing to determine their integrity and suitability,” said President Kenyatta during the 55th Madaraka Day celebrations at Kinoru stadium in Meru on Friday.

  1. We are all watching to see…
We are all watching to see how far this will go. I hope this is real and not a tease or a hoax. Everyone should say
enough is enough to live in one of the most corrupt country. All government employees are victimizing the regular wananchi with these deep seated corruption. They go into public office with one aim only…… to enrich themselves. It is about time for accountability or relinquish their employment immediately regardless of their status in the government. If any public employee is unable to account for the sudden wealth they should be fired immediately.
