13 Foreigners Arrested with Fake Kenyan Documents

Thirteen foreigners have been arrested with fake documents in the ongoing verification and registration exercise targeting foreign citizens working in Kenya.

Speaking on Tuesday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi said the exercise has so far seen more than 2000 foreigners issued with fresh work permits.

Foreigners seeking to be issued with the document are required to produce their original work permit, a valid passport, a valid alien card, official payment receipt and a Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) PIN number.

“It is a known fact that there are brokers working even in the department, and offering the aliens permits illegally for a fee. Their days are however numbered, and we will soon catch up with them,” Matiang’i said.

Immigration Principal Secretary Gordon Kihalangwa said investigations on how the 13 got the fake work permits had been launched.

“Investigations on how the 13 apprehended got the permits is underway and those found culpable will face stringent disciplinary measures,” said Major-General (Rtd) Kihalangwa.

Foreigners found not have complied with the new directives after the end of the 60-day exercise risk being deported, the Interior CS warned.

“Stringent measures will follow for those who will not have complied with the registration and verification directive,” Matiang’i said.
