President Kenyatta has cleared the air on the relationship between him and controversial British data mining firm, Cambridge Analytica.
Speaking during an interview aired on CNN on Friday evening, the Head of State strongly denied that he has any ties with the controversial marketing research firm.
Uhuru, who was interviewed by renowned CNN anchor Christiane Amanpour, categorically stated that he has no knowledge of any engagement with the company during 2013 and 2017 elections as alleged.
“I hear it on your news media….you need to just look at the speeches that we were making across the country and tell me what speech has been written by them,” Uhuru said on the show that was aired on Friday evening.
“99 percent of all the speeches I made during that period were off the cuff and I addressed over 700 political rallies,” President Kenyatta added.
Asked whether he knew Mark Turnbull, the Cambridge Analytica official who claimed that his firm played key role in Kenyatta’s 2013 and 2017 campaigns, President Uhuru said “No.”
Last month, top officials of Cambridge Analytica were exposed in a secretly recorded video admitting to interfering with 200 elections across the world, including that of Kenya in 2013 and 2017.
However, the President’s comment contradicts that of Jubilee Deputy Chairman David Murathe, who last month said that Cambridge Analytica was “basically branding and all that” during the 2013 and 2017 General Elections.
