Kalonzo, Wetang'ula, Mudavadi 'Cry Foul' after Raila Fails to Consult them Before Meeting President Uhuru

Three National Super Alliance (Nasa) co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetang’ula and Musalia Mudavadi now say that Opposition leader Raila Odinga didn’t inform them about his unity talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In a joint statement on Friday, the three Nasa leaders said they were not aware of the talks between Odinga and President Kenyatta. They said they only learnt about the meeting on the media. “This morning the 9th day of March 2018 we saw through the media a meeting between The President and Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga. Nasa is a coalition of Four political parties namely, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Wiper Democratic Movement-Kenya (WDM-K), Amani National Congress (ANC) and Ford Kenya,” the three said in the statement.

“While we have always advocated for dialogue, as Co-Principals of the Nasa Coalition, we were not privy to the discussions at Harambee House. The Four Nasa Co-principals have however scheduled a retreat on Monday 12th March, 2018 when we shall deliberate on the political developments,” they added.

On Friday morning, the President and Odinga held a closed door meeting at Harambee House and later addressed a joint media briefing, where they announced they had resolved to work together.

“Time has come for us to confront our differences because they are becoming too entrenched,” said Odinga during the press briefing.

“This country is greater than any one individual and for this country to come together, leaders must come together and address what ails our nation,” said President Kenyatta.

Odinga and Kenyatta further stressed that national interest must always prevail and called on Kenyans to unite. “We refuse to allow our diversity to kill our nation, we refuse to be the leaders under whose watch Kenyans lead into a failed nation,” said Odinga.

“This marks a new beginning for our country and that we can differ in political alignment but always remain steadfast and united in matters Kenya,” said Kenyatta.

Deputy President William Ruto, who was not present at the meeting, lauded the move by Odinga and President Uhuru. Ruto tweeted: “Congratulations PRES.UHURU & RAILA for being statesmen. You have risen to the moment for kenya and against hate, negative ethnicity and division. The unity, stability and transformation of kenya supersedes all other partisan interests. Wangwana mubarikiwe mpaka mshangae.”
