An American national lost her life after a paragliding accident that occurred along Kerio Valley in Elgeyo Marakwet County, on Tuesday.
39-year old Kimbery Ann died alongside a Czech Republic national, Tomas Lednik whom they were paragliding with on the same parachute.
Ann has been living in Kenya since 2001 and has been frequent visitor of Iten, Elgeyo-Matakwet, where paragliding is now common.
Reports indicate that the two lost control of the flying device, before it crashed on a rock at Kipkaa area in Keiyo North.
Confirming the incident, Keiyo North police boss Mwenda Meme said it took local residents more than four hours to recover the bodies of the two tourists, due to the area’s rugged terrain.
“It took at least four hours for locals and the police to reach the area where the duo fell on due to escarpment’s rugged terrain,” he told the Star.
Their bodies were taken to Iten County Referral Hospital mortuary for post mortem.
Mwenda now wants the county government and Civil Aviation Authority to suspend all paragliding operations in the region after a 55-year old German national, Gerd Schegler, died on the same area on January 7th, while paragliding.
It is reported that his equipment failed leading to the crash.
