NASA Vows to Oppose Jubilee Party's Plot to Oust Four Rebellious MPs

National Super Alliance (Nasa) MPs have vowed to rally behind four rebellious Jubilee MPs who face removal from various House Committees.

MPs allied to Nasa have said they will oppose plans by Jubilee Party to eject the four from the leadership of their committees, in a bid to safeguard the independence of Parliament.

Minority leader in the National Assembly, John Mbadi said Nasa MPs will support the four in the planned vote-of-no-confidence meetings set for Tuesday, “to make their voices known about the abuse of Parliament by the executive.”

“There is no reason to have a vote of no confidence against the members because the president and his deputy don’t want them to lead the committees. It is a joke on the independence of parliament and we will defend the institution,” Mbadi said.

“Despite our numerical disadvantage, we will not just sit there and see Parliament captured by the executive. We want to be on the right side of history. You can give party position but you cannot dictate how members should vote,” he said.

President Kenyatta and deputy President Ruto have ordered MPs Alfred Keter (Nandi Hills), Silas Tiren (Moiben), James Gakuya (Embakasi North) and Kangogo Bowen (Marakwet East) be ejected from the committees for going against the party stand.

The four contested against candidates fronted by the party, despite an earlier agreement during a Jubilee parliamentary group meeting on who would take up the seats. The deal was to allow regional, ethnic and gender representation in sharing of posts within the party.
