Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has acknowledged the receipt of Polycarp Igathe’s resignation as Nairobi Deputy Governor.
In a statement released by the office of the Governor on Friday evening, Sonko said he will issue a detailed statement on the matter at a later date.
“Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has received a letter of resignation from Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe. The Governor is considering the letter and will issue a comprehensive statement later,” the statement read.
In a statement on Friday, Igathe cited strained relationship with the Governor as the reason for his abrupt exit.
“Dear Nairobians, it is with a heavy heart that I resign my seat as elected Deputy Governor of Nairobi City County effective 1pm on 31st Jan 2018. I regret I have failed to earn the trust of the Governor to enable me to drive Admin & Management of the county,” he posted on his Twitter account.
“Without fear, favour or ill will I step down to avoid abusing or betraying my oath of office to Kenyans, Nairobians & my family. Thank you for the encouraging support given to me so far,” he added.
His resignation comes barely months after the two took Oath of Office following their election on August 8th, 2017 polls.
This was a dysfunctional…
This was a dysfunctional team right from the beginning. I guess Sonko would still have won with any other pick for a deputy. The rationale of having I-gate may have been “he can add value” to the county govt-this was never to be. Leaders who cannot negotiate through ambiguity miss opportunities by over-analyzing decisions taken by their superiors and others in the team.
Some of our leaders take positions as their destiny, not realizing that we need creative and innovation solutions to our complex and perpetual problems. Gov. Sonko, your teammate was easily distracted and scored own team early in the game. Take this as a golden opportunity for you to re-organize and assemble a functional team without the pressures of elections. Seek a deputy with character, competence and above all, can think outside the box. For Nairobi will take nothing short of the best from your team.

Sonko jikaze kiume na ufanye kazi vizuri. After 5 yrs you will get all the credit. People will say Sonko did such & such without a deputy. You will be a hero if you do your work well. “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade”
Guys its your right to leave…
Guys its your right to leave yr job if u feel so.So igathe has the same rights. Also lets not forget this is politics guys and uhuruto are the ones incharge of nairobi city so sonko will have no choice but to suck it n if he behaves otherwise he should prepare to vacate he office.Nairobi has to work coz its the eye or entrance to kenya.I hope what igathe was talking about train around namata towns will start soon. There is beta life outside there than bin inside politics. All he best igathe and i hope the so called fake politics who think hey can die in politics should come so u can offer them advices.
Teaming them together was…
Teaming them together was strategic on Uhuru’s part. Sonko the charmer would woo the voter and Igathe with his brainpower would navigate the policies/procedures. The two are like water & oil – can’t mix. As much as I like Sonko’s ability to relate to the man at the grass roots, fact is, he remains largely illiterate, so anyone with an ounce of education will interpret as a threat to Sonko. Just saying, not a hater.
I have asked and i keep on…
I have asked and i keep on wondering the reason of having the deputy governor’s seat. What are his duties other than earning shs 1m.per month for nothing. The other job description is waiting for the governor to die(and the deputies have already started killing their bosses) so that he takes over. The best way forward is just to scrap the useless post and the county speaker should act as governor in case he/she expires.
