Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr has sponsored a Bill seeking to have amendments introduced to the National Flag, Emblems and Names Act to allow any Kenyan to fly the national flag at their residence, work place or business.
Mutual noted that the national flag is a symbol of national unity and should not be used to distinguish individuals in the country.
“Yes I proposed the amendments because the flag should not be used to distinguish people but rather it is a symbol of National Unity,” said Kilonzo.
The Wiper Party senator said that Kenyans willing to hoist the flag at their residences, businesses, work place, during public functions should be allowed to do so.
“I proposed this bill before the elections in order to avoid the divisions the country is currently facing. Every Kenyan identifies with the flag,” he added.
Currently, ordinary Kenyans are not allowed to use the national flag at their will. The flag is mostly hoisted in public institutions, schools, embassies, police stations and during state functions. The president and cabinet members are the only officials allowed to fly the flag on their vehicles.
This is a sign of TRUE…
This is a sign of TRUE patriotism. Isupport 100% the Bill. Presidential portraits hanging should be optional.
Good Idea; but a reminder of…
Good Idea; but a reminder of KANUism or Arap Mashamba’s cap colors.
good idea no doubt.

Priorities priorities. I’m…
Priorities priorities. I’m sure the most pressing need for common Kenyans is to fly a Kenyan flag.
You are right.Priority No.1…
You are right.Priority No.1 being to amend the useless and expensive constitution to cut the bloated govt by 3/4(three quarters) starting with scrapping of idle senate. Kilonzo should speak for Makueni peole if they need the flag than water for irrigation.I just wonder who sent Kilonzo to table such a motion. Why should i worship the Kenyan flag?
I didn’t know it wasn’t…
I didn’t know it wasn’t allowed; i have had mine up the past 3 years!
Are there more pressing…
Are there more pressing issues? Like dealing with hooliganism against Raila? Health? Education? Etc
Some of these populist ideas…
Some of these populist ideas are cheeky bearing in mind common mwananchi is going hungry with no access to medical care, clean water etc including in the young senator’s backyard. Patriotism is greatness but mimicking other peoples expressive behavior is a mockery to our own greatness. While the gesture looks genuine from outside, in some instances flags and such paraphernalia in private residences have been used as a form of subtle discrimination.
Flags are fine the way they…
Flags are fine the way they are in public places. To be patriotic is to feel it at heart, and your actions represent the country, especially internationally.
My suggestion is to have a KENYAN NATIONAL DRESS.May come in many colors but the design should be the same.Pretty much like out money. But,I will leave that to the social experts.
See with a national dress, you can were it proudly any day,and when you dont feel patriotic for some reason, you wear something else. instead of burning the flag.
Check the nigerian parliament, and you will see what I mean. You will see legislators proudly in their west african regalia.
Yes to National Dress.Away with suits za wazungu in parliament. Let show some african pride we garnered with independence.Lets also do away with the white wig the judges wear. Its very incongruous with their dark skins. Certainly was not designed with an african(black) in mind.
Fly the Kenyan flag but…
Fly the Kenyan flag but every serious illness means a trip to a foreign hospital. Who needs good hospitals when you can fly the Kenyan flag on your house?
