Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua Wants Prime Minister Post Reinstated

Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua has called for an amendment to the constitution to create the position of Prime Minister.

Mutua says that creation of more political positions would be a solution to the political stalemate facing Kenya currently, since it would accommodate more people in government.

“Expanded government needs to be thought of. The issue of the winner takes all is not good,” he said on Monday during the official launch of the 5th edition of KICOSCA/CASA 2017 Games at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos county.

The former government spokesman said that the changes in the constitution should also give room to those contesting for the presidency to at the same time vie for other positions such as MP, Senator or Governor positions.

Mutua welcomed the Supreme Court ruling that upheld President Uhuru Kenyatta’s victory in the October 26th repeat poll, and urged Kenyans to maintain peace.

“We have accepted the court’s ruling the way we did last time when it annulled Uhuru’s August 8th election win.”

“We need peace; we cannot develop our country with violence. I am saddened to see people lose their lives to politics. There is no need for Kenyans to shed blood due to politics.”

The Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader used the opportunity to declare his bid for Presidency in the 2022 general elections.

Mutua was flanked by Governors Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega), Mike Mbuvi (Nairobi), Fedinand Waititu (Kiambu), Joseph Chepkwony (Kericho), Ali Roba (Mandera) and Ali Korane (Garissa) during the opening of the event that brings all 47 counties together to compete in various sporting activities.

  1. Other world democracies are…
Other world democracies are the same, winner take it all, what we need is mature politicians who know or should understand that when you vie for a position, the outcomes are only limited two options, you win or lose. When we reach that political maturity, there will no chaos when a candidate loses. An example the last US election the president won the electoral college vote while his opponent won the popular vote, and yet there was not as many chaos as we had in Kenya where the opponent pulled out and then cried about rigging. If a person is not willing to accept a defeat, they have no business to vie for a position. Additionally I think the counties should be scaled down to the original 7 provinces to lower the cost of operating the government and ease the burden the tax payers have to bear.

  2. This is where I disagree…
This is where I disagree with y’all. The position should be created for the minority runner up party and not for Raila. In the process, reduce the number of counties to seven and scrap the Senate. Winner take all mentality will continue to create tensions every election cycle.

    • Nani?, i kind of agree with…
Nani?, i kind of agree with Gov Mutua on this topic too. I think it would be good for Kenya to have a PM position. But unlike 2008, not create it specifically for Raila. I like ua idea of reducing counties, but maybe to about 17, scrap or reduce the senate and women reps. Also reduce MPs to ptevious numbers. Yap, Kenya may need a referendum for this. That would be good too.

  4. The idea of devolution was…
The idea of devolution was to spread government power closer to the people. We need a smaller central government now that most issues are handled at County level. As such the national government should be cutting positions and not creating new portfolios. Kenya can’t afford to create plum jobs at taxpayer expense just for pleasure.

    • @mumbi, not even at pleasure…
@mumbi, not even at pleasure, but like to create the position to satisfy one dude who has a highly inflated entitled attitude.

This guy probably wants to vie for presidency come 2022. He knows his chances of winning will be slim. So he is campaigning for the PM’s position indirectly.

Alfred mutua is famous for his PHD from an idiot university. creating a prime minster position for opposition means we are back to one party system . appointments in Kenya are based on background . self made Kenyans have no chance. check on nominees for senate and parliament some are over 70 years old others have been rejected by voters . we must move beyond this mentality
