DP William Ruto: Raila is Fatigued, Confused

Deputy President William Ruto has called on anyone dissatisfied with the outcome of October 26th repeat presidential election to seek legal redress.

Speaking during an an interview with South Africa Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) on Monday, Ruto took a swipe at National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga, saying that he appears to be ‘unwell’.

The Deputy President further dismissed Raila’s claims that a fresh election will be held in 90 days, adding that the next presidential contest will be in 2022.

“I think [the Opposition leader] is fatigued or confused, there will be no election in 90 days,” the DP said.

“Kindly remind him that the next election will be held in 1, 750 days, on 9th August, 2022.”

Ruto said President Uhuru has validly been elected and ruled out chances of engaging the opposition in any dialogue.

“We will not have talks outside our constitutional framework. We are a democracy. After the winner is announced Kenyans are free to prosecute issues in court,” he said.

“Kenya will move on and there will be no discussion with Raila regarding elections.” Said Ruto in another interview on Sunday.

In an interview with Al Jazeera on Sunday, Ruto dismissed Raila’s fresh election in 90 days claims, saying that Kenya in a constitutional democracy.

“Our statement and our position to our friend Mr Odinga is that Kenya is a constitutional democracy and every imaginable situation has been provided for by the constitution. Whatever he is alleging about an election in 90 days is nowhere in the constitution and no one person however important or popular they think they are can change the provisions of the constitution,” Ruto stated.

He added: “There will be no election in 90 days, there will be no discussion on matters to do with election. We will have dialogue with Mr. Odinga on other matters and not matters that have been settled by the people of Kenya in their supreme will on the ballot.”
