IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba Still in Office, Raila Claims

Opposition leader Raila Odinga claims that beleaguered Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chief Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba has not left office despite announcing he had taken a 3-week leave from the commission.

Addressing residents of Keroka, Kisii County on Monday, the former Prime Minister alleged that Chiloba was in his office today morning to perform duties related to Thursday’s repeat election.

“I can assure you that today morning at 7am, Chiloba was in his office, and he is still there now,” Raila said.

This comes barely two days after the CEO announced he was taking a 3-week leave from IEBC.

“This is the first time I’m taking leave since my son was born. He turns two years (old) in two weeks’ time,” Chiloba told Reuters last Friday.

Chiloba’s leave came days after IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati called on those adversely mentioned in bungling of cancelled August 8th election to step aside to allow another team preside over the repeat poll.

“I ask the staff who have been adversely mentioned to step aside and allow the project team to function without interference,” demanded Chebukati.

On Sunday, Raila said that Chiloba’s temporary exit was a plot to hoodwink Kenyans, saying that he had already set the system to rig the repeat poll.

NASA has been calling for the removal of Chiloba from office, saying he was the main culprit behind the fraud the coalition claims happened in the August 8th vote.

Raila, why do you care if Chiloba is in office or not. You chose not to participate in the elections and common sense does not align with your concerns. Stay out of the elections quietly and wait for your president to be announced. Leave Chiloba alone!
