Police Rescue Martha Karua from Angry Waiguru Supporters

Police in Kerugoya were on Monday forced to lobe teargas canisters to disperse a group of rowdy protestors who momentarily blocked Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua from entering the Kerugoya Law Courts for the hearing of the petition she filed against the election of Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru.

The protesters, chanting anti-NASA slogans and waving placards, barricaded the road to block Karua’s vehicle, who was accompanied by her lawyer Gitobu Imanyara.

The irate protestors accused the former Gichugu MP of being a NASA mole. Police had to be deployed to scatter the protestors before the court hearing could proceed.

By this time, Justice Lucy Gitari had called of the hearing of the case, after Karua failed to show up in court on time.

The protesters set ablaze an effigy of Karua outside the court premises.

However, after arriving at the court and apologising to the court for coming late after the drama, Justice Gitari ordered the area Chief Magistrate and the Court Registrar to ensure the petitioner gained access to the court without any obstruction in future proceedings.

After the hearing concluded, Karua and Imanyara rushed to their vehicle and drove off without uttering a word.

Protesters lined up along Kerugoya town streets heckled her as she left, as police kept vigil to ensure no other commotion happened.
