Celebrated American pop star Madonna Louise Ciccone, popularly known as Madonna, is on a visit to Kenya in the company of her adopted children.
Through Instagram on Tuesday evening, the Grammy-award winner shared photos and videos of her family creating a mural of the artistic “tree of life” using broken glass in Nairobi’s Kibera slums.
The 64-year-old ‘Queen of Pop’ said the mural is in honor of the great work that Kennedy Odede, the founder and CEO of Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO) is doing.
Madonna said she was impressed with Odede’s work and his commitment to this community and is excited to continue working with him and his wife Jessica.
She noted that Odede created the organization “when he was a child living in the slums of Nairobi to improve the lives of families living in these challenging conditions.”
Madonna described SHOFCO as an organization created to focus on “filtering the water, education, enabling loans for women and men to start up businesses and putting a stop to gender-based violence by empowering women, taking legal action and giving them a safe space to Rebuild their lives.”
The ‘Beautiful Stranger’ hit maker toured parts of Kibera including the SHOFCO Kibera School for Girls, a library, an art gallery and posed in front of a motorbike engraved “Jesus saves” to which she captioned “Facts”.
She is accompanied by her adopted kids, David Banda, 18, Chifundo James, 17, as well as twins Stella and Estere, both 11 years old.

Most countries do not market their weaknesses, they market their strengths. Haki sisi waafrika!!
Matokeman’s Kenya can only…
Matokeman’s Kenya can only market corruption, useless bloated govt and how hungry billionaire Kenyans pay huge salaries to a group of 4000 elite gangsters for looting their money.Simple question-How can Kenyans have 48 governments which cannot feed six million people?

If that picture is anything…
If that picture is anything to go by, it appears that she stood a safe distance for the stinking drainage and flying toilets. This is in shape contrast to Losis Gossett who freely mingled with the underprivileged on his visit to Kibera.
Anyway, having the largest slum in Africa is nothing to write home about. We should embark on a project to make it the smallest slum.Hopefully Madonna will spearhead that project.
Sunshine is the best…
Sunshine is the best sanitizer. Off
course, standing upwind and a good distance away don’t hurt. The best way to fix things sometimes is to put them out there, warts and all.
Go to skidrow….Los Angeles…
Go to skidrow….Los Angeles…, and see your own living poor. These white saviours come with 100k and take pics with the underprivileged….then sell them for their own gain….showing their kin how lucky they are not living in ‘that’ abject Poverty… Shame on you Madonna
The thing is, there are…
The thing is, there are actual jobs to be had in the US. For instance I currently live in a state with 2 openings per unemployed individual, with a minimum wage of $13.65/hr. It’s difficult to hire anyone at less than $18/hr. Admittedly it is one of the wealthiest states in the US but you get my drift. Meanwhile Ruto wants to export Kenyans rather than create actual jobs. BTW, the state is very liberal – it allows weed, mushrooms (not quite sure what they do), has lots of brew pubs and micro breweries, easy speed limits, and for a mountain person, mountains!!!

Reminds me of the backlash…
Reminds me of the backlash that followed Oprah Winfrey for opening a girl’s school in South Africa. Many blacks and of course some whites, and latinos, pointed out that “She did not have to go that far, when the same problems and needs existed in her backyard”.I believe that she pretty much told them,”Its my money-my choice”.
