Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris and rapper Kennedy Ombima, alias King Kaka, were embroiled in a spat on Twitter over the politician’s decision to seek treatment abroad.
Last weekend, Passaris took to Twitter to announce she had undergone successful spinal surgery at a hospital in India. However, some Kenyans online put her to task to explain what she was doing, given that she is a member of Parliament’s health committee, to ensure poor Kenyans who cannot afford to fly abroad for treatment can get such an operation in local hospitals.
A seemingly irritated Passaris blasted one of the Twitter user, asking him to “man up” even as she claimed that she spent a whopping KSh50 million campaigning to get elected to her position.
“What are you doing about it? #ManUp I invested 50 million to be elected a leader. I served way before being elected. At 55 #OfficiallyMadeOfTitenium because of sacrifices I made. As a member of the Health Commitee we shaping the Presidents #AgendaFourKe #UHCKe being crucial,” Passaris told Twitter user identified as George Gathecha.
This response prompted rapper Kaka to call out Passaris, saying she should have started a conversation around improving the healthcare system in Kenya instead of boasting of how much she spent on campaigns.
“@EstherPassaris shame shame Shame. The talk should be on how we have made our health reliable to the point you are getting your surgery at KNH. Wewe Uko Hapo unatuambia juu ya 50 million. Stop being selfish for once, just for once and serve the people who put you there. Shame,” wrote King Kaka.
In response to Kaka, Passaris accused the ‘Wajinga Nyinyi’ hit-maker of being “so full and fooled by yourself.”
“You are so ‘full and fooled’ by yourself. ‘Words’ can instruct but they don’t do the work or lead. Let me spell it as it is. Get off your high horse & stop being who you truly are #WajingaNyinyi who thinks through hate you can drive or derive change. I have worked & served. You?” Passaris posed.
Not ready to continue with the argument, King Kaka asked Passaris to recover from the surgery first then engage him in a conversation.
“You know we still need you in Nairobi so I will say a prayer today wishing you a speedy recovery since your wounds are still fresh. All those who have been retweeting her tweets also whisper a prayer. Kunywa dawa na ulale, when healed then we can engage,” he tweeted.
This woman is way past her…
This woman is way past her sell by date. Kink Kaka slapped her into silence.
@pasallis – moments like the…
@pasallis – moments like the one you are currently in tends to reveal the kind of a leader you are to the people who elected.
While I wish you a quick recovery in an Indian Hospital, people, mostly those you represent as the MCA, are just flabbergasted as to the reason why your spinal surgery could not have been performed in one of the many hospitals in Nairobi, Kenya.
In addition, you are a member of the Health Committee which solely decides the availability of medical equipment, medicines and other associated services needed to provide corrective treatment like the exact surgery you are receiving in India.
The constituents are just wondering what will happen to them if they unfortunately get spinal problems but they cannot afford to travel to India. They develop anxiety when they see you going abroad. They begin to wonder what has gone amiss with the local hospitals. How can they trust the local hospitals and the doctors in Kenya if you cannot treat those hospitals and the doctors working there.
It is quite alarming for you to suggest that you are entitled to go abroad simply because you spent Kshs 50 million during campaigns.
You spent that hefty amount Of money because you knew that being an MCA would create an opportunity for you to get shs 50 x 50 millions at the end of your term.
This kind of attitude is exactly whAt is wrong with Kenya’s politicians. It is no longer what you do for the people but how much you benefit from the political position you are holding.
Most of the politicians feel like the electorates owe you because you spent money campaigning. This leads you to use the electorates like bargaining pones for your material benefit.
You are now busy trying to recover your 50 million to a point you don’t have the time to build a quality hospital in Nairobi where all the sick people can be treated without having to rush overseas. Actually, most people in you locality can not afford to get treatment in India, let alone Greece!!
We must call this severe situation what it is hoping that when you return to Nairobi, you will now begin to build a state of the art and science Hospital that can fully cater to all the medical needs of your constituents. Please do not justify what is happening as, “well, things in Kenya have always been like this”!
Nairobi does not need her…
Nairobi does not need her she just admitted she spent 50 million to be a leader and then she brags how she has served exactly what has she done for Nairobi that a regular person without 50 million cannot do.Leadership is not about money.Take early retirement see how quickly you will be replaced .It is said you stole the house you stay in from an elderly “Mhindi” could your billionaire husband not buy you the house or was he busy with slay queens half your age
