Nyeri Women Don't Batter their Husbands, Kenyan-Born Australian Senator Says

Kenyan-born Australian Senator Lucy Gichuhi has come to the defense of Nyeri women, who have always been linked to the behavior of battering their husbands.

However, Gichuhi, who entered books of history in 2017 after being the first person of African decent to be elected to the Australian Senate dismissed the misconception as an “irrelevant joke and a sideshow”, describing a Nyeri woman as one who is hardworking.

“The Nyeri woman is a woman who is hardworking and overcomes her circumstances.”

Gichuhi, who hails from Hiriga in Mathira, Nyeri county, was speaking during a press briefing after she paid area Governor Mutahi Kahiga a courtesy call at his office.

She even went ahead to introduced her husband William Gichuhi, who confirmed that he has never been beaten by her.

She further noted that a Nyeri woman takes responsibility for her life and supports family and society citing late Nobel Prize Winner professor Wangari Maathai and marathon champion Catherine Ndereba.

She is expected to address the Nyeri County Assembly later this week.

  1. Action speak louder than…
Action speak louder than word. We have seen these Nyeri men who have been clobbered on TV & Newspapers. Senator wa Austria go and tell those lies to Austrians. Kenyans know Nyeri women beat their men starting with general kiguoya. Wetangula is another one who get clobbered by his Nyeri waifu

    • You call them men – you…
You call them men – you compare yourself with them. When a woman cannot take it anymore – defends herself from insults, physical and mental abuse it is termed battering men who have already battered themselves .If you are that kind of man then you have a problem

@Kimura, violence is not the answer. If things are not working out walk out from that marriage or relationship. Do not chop or uproot the transformer.

  2. waGichuhi is denying that…
waGichuhi is denying that gen Kiguoya Kibaki was not bartered by his expired wife,Muthoni to the extent of rejecting his second wife,Wambui in the public. And i fail to understand why she gives an example of divorcee, expired Wangari Mathai as a family champion yet she was divorced by former MP,Mwangi Mathai for indefinitely. How can a woman divorced on cheating grounds be a mentor?BURE KABISA

  3. Her sample is statistically…
Her sample is statistically nul-Her husband. She would serve Nyeri women better if she acknowledged their clobbering, and suggested solutions to curb it down. And I dont mean overused old suggestions such as disconnecting the male- transformer, from the errant husband.

  4. Rumba,…
    Rumba,
You are a very smart man. Thank you for educating us. I didnt know wanatandikwa maalum. Its sad though. Mara affairs, halafu miraa sijui hata makofi is very unafrican. I get that ulevi ni mbaya, but its not good for batoto to see this.
Jamaa one day may fura and piga ngumi and knock the wife unconcious in drunken stupor.
I am against these physical acts.

  5. She is the exception and…
She is the exception and should not be seen as a true representative of the sample. There is evidence and not just once but many times on television online and even on the radio of husbands being beaten up by their wives. This area is known for that while those from Kabete literally kill their husbands.

  6. I choose to steer away from…
I choose to steer away from the nonsensical, stereotypical comments above. By the way Lucy Gichuhi is a senator in Australia not Austria. She mentions Wangari Maathai because she was and still is an inspiration to the young girls world wide.Claiming that she was cheating on the husband is absurd and that was the propaganda Moi used to fight her and continue grabbing land. Unless you are the one who bedded her which I highly doubt since you talk like someone with a mouthful of jiggers, you ought to shut your mouth and behave like a man. Wacha upuzi.

@Rumbwa, wacha ujinga. Kama una machungu usituletee hapa. Toa maoni yako bila matusi…na Kama huwezi, enda ukamwonee your shrink. Nini!

    • lakini there you are…
lakini there you are hypocritical, You cant say you choose to ignore nonsense, but you came to this thread, read all comments and decided to write too.
Admit it, you may be part of the problem. These things take dialog. Men have come up and spoken for themselves suddenly these very verbal women empty debes try to shut them down and deny them their voice.
While I know it takes two, for you to take womens side without weighing both sides and calling other sides nonsense/stereotypes is belittlingg those men with genuine concerns.
Once we get past denial, then we can make full progress.
But keep on Nyeri men..we need to let the light shine on these issues.

  7. Madam Senator let me tell…
Madam Senator let me tell you something: Things have Changed in Kenya since you Left for Abroad; and Domestic Tables have Turned particularly in NYERI. Life has become more Stressful (at least Economically and Socially) with Men Drinking too much (to Numb their Marital Frustrations); so in turn Women have Resorted to Venting on their Husbands using Emotional Abuse, Pangas, Knives, and even Conjugal Denials, Blatant Adulteries, MisAndries, PolyAndries, and Murders. No wonder Kebete is a Den and Hiding Place of LASCIVIOUS and Miserable Self-made Widows.

  8. Nyeri women at one stage …
Nyeri women at one stage decided to say #WeToo and I urge all women to longer accept abuse, rape and slavery by cheating, alcoholic husbands

    • Kimura. For Good Chemistry…
Kimura. For Good CHEMISTRY and Fluency between Husband and Wife (and therefore Harmony): The Bible says “Husbands LOVE your Wives and Wives RESPECT your Husbands.” Not VISE VERSA (with Men Respecting Wives and Wives Loving Husbands). Therefore: Love (from a Husband) + Respect (from a Wife) = Chemistry and HARMONY while Vise verbally: Love (from Wife) and Respect (from Husband) = Physics and FRICTION and Abuse amongst Couples.

  9. Kenyans really need some…
Kenyans really need some lessons on general literacy and avoidance of sweeping statements and stereotypes which do not add value to anything.
Human responds to their environmental opportunities and challenges. The Kikuyu community was matrilineal by lineage and the woman was not subordinate to her husband until the coming of the colonizers.

There are various ways to respond to environmental challenges, some women abandon their children and exit marriage leaving poor children under care of their father and grandmother who may not love or provide quality care, other take the children with them, others seek intervention from the family and elders to deal with issues, and some take law into their hands and punish husbands who neglect their duties. it is human and not a preserve of the Nyeri woman.

One thing to note as Ms. Gichuhi mentions, most women in Nyeri as elsewhere work hard, are protective of their marriage and children, and do not have time to entertain nonsense-if this is what you call battering, then you must be confused. they are happily married and their families well cared for.
Next time you find yourself posting blanket statements, reflect and educate yourself on facts and practices; or keep the stereotype as that might be the only piece of knowledge too dear to loose.

  10. Some comments here are…
Some comments here are posted for nonsensical value and don’t merit response nor reflection. Events whose value has been inflated by stereotyping and media glare don’t a community like the Nyeri woman represent! If you happen to socialize, date or marry a typical Nyeri woman, you shall find yourself immensely satisfied in all aspects of your life…just don’t batter her, off course – and you shouldn’t that to any woman anywhere…
