President William Ruto has nominated Noordin Haji as the National Intelligence Service(NIS) director general.
The appointment follows the retirement of Major-General Philip Kameru who held the top office in the agency since 2014. According to the head of the public service, President Ruto’s appointment reflects his willingness to achieve a smooth transition. The President has availed Mr Haji’s name to the National Assembly for deliberation once their recess end in June. If the Parliament approves his nomination, the director of the public prosecution will return to NIS after working in the office of DPP for five years.
“It is notified that His Excellency the President has, in accordance with Section 7(1) of the National Intelligence Service Act, nominated Mr Noordin Haji for appointment as the director-general of the National Intelligence Service,” the communication from Head of Public Service Felix Koskei read.
The nomination of the University of Wales alumnus culminates the changes in the country’s securities agencies that have received new bosses at the offices of the Directorate of criminal investigations and the National Police Service. The changes come after Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai decided to spend the remainder of his term on leave due to deteriorating health, giving way for Japhet Koome to replace his position. Mohamed Amin replaced George Kinoti at the apex of DCI. Also, General Francis Ogolla replaced General Robert Kibochi as the Chief of Defense Forces.
