Woman Who Disrupted President Ruto’s Speech in Nyeri Says She Wanted Sh400,000 for Son’s Relocation to US

A woman who interrupted President Ruto’s speech during the burial of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s brother Jack Reriani in Nyeri on Tuesday has spoken out.

Lucy Wangui says she wanted to seek financial assistance from Ruto to enable her son John Kairo Gichuhi, 37, to travel to the United States to work as a driver.

The woman claims Gichuhi, a father of three who works as a tout in Nyeri town, was invited to the US by his cousin and the family is unable to raise Sh400,000 required for his relocation.

“I came to seek help from President Ruto as my son wants to go abroad. I was requesting him to help me with Sh400,000 so that he can leave. My son is a tout at the 2NK Nyeri stage and has three kids. Due to financial constraints, they are constantly being sent home for school fees,” she told the media.

“I have been wanting to seek support from Ruto. When he was elected my son landed a job abroad but we cannot raise his ticket so when I heard that he is here, I came and decided to seek his attention. I decided to seek the President’s help for my son to go abroad so that he can help sustain us.”

She added: “I came to seek help as he is my last resort. I was so frustrated to the point of attempting suicide. I am employed at Chaka and I earn Sh10,000.”

The widow caused a security scare when she attempted to make her way to the podium as President Ruto was addressing mourners, yelling that she desperately needed to see him and his wife.

“Nataka kukuona, niko mwisho, nataka kuona Mama wa Taifa, nisaidieni, nataka kukufa…” she shouted before the president’s security personnel dragged her out.

Ruto told the woman that she would be helped and asked her to see First Lady Racheal Ruto

“Keti tu chini ntakuona baadaye…Mama Rachel yuko hapa atakuona…” said Ruto.

  1. I truly understand the pain…
I truly understand the pain. Back in 2004, i tried giving my CV to Kibaki, in Nyeri, but I was blocked by the security. Desperation can lead one to do the unthinkable. Let’s hope Ruto will or mama Rachel will see need to help them. That’s my prayer.

    • Kora Kanini. Air ticket to…
Kora Kanini. Air ticket to the US is about KShs.100,000. So the Extra KShs.200,000 to 300,000 for What? If that’s Why you Nyeri people FORGOT that It was RAILA who Put Kibaki to Power (and Voted for Ruto), then you’re Idiots and very UNappreciative fools???.

        Point taken comrade,
But, the presidency of Kenyan is always decided by the masses.
Your issue is you’re just using your emotions. Ruto won, Raila Lost let’s move on with developments.

      • Raila knew he wasn’t going…
Raila knew he wasn’t going to win at the time. He said Kibaki tosha just to remove Moi. Kibaki was just collateral in Raila’s quest. Of course he also knew that if he ran, Moi was going to win.
Presidential elective post is not merely given because an individual had supported the previous candidate. It’s rewarded on the perceived positive performance, the likeness of the individual, the campaign messaging, strong and decisive personality and many other characters.
Therefore it’s not enough reason to elect Raila president just because he had supported Kibaki.

  3. Sasa mbona mmemwanika hapa?…
Sasa mbona mmemwanika hapa? Atanyimwa visa as not planning return to Kenya. Tusaidiane. Remove this post. Trump holdouts are still employees and will use it against her son at the embassy.

  4. I applaud her drive,and…
I applaud her drive, and effort to see her son do well. But surely is that the way to go about it?I understand her desperation. Many are in that situation. Some even worse. They only difference is that she is gutsy ,bold, and taking advantage of here presence at the meeting.
The take out here should be that,Uruto should do something for many in that situation. And by something,I mean to avail programs that carter to the needs of graduates who are still unemployed,by way of subsidizing on the job training. Not every graduate or job seeker is primed for business start-up but those that are, should have access to grants. Expansion of the economy is the way to go.

  5. How is a Nyeri tout gonna…
How is a Nyeri tout gonna get a driving job in the US? First he has to get a lot of driving training to help him understand America is run by law and order.

Secondly, is poverty that bad in Kenya that a citizen has to go begging for help every time a politician passes by?

Third, the US Embassy will not issue a visa to a Kenyan to come drink whatever vehicles in America. There more than enough drivers of the American origin.

Surely poverty is certainly a bad thing anywhere in this world…. Best of luck pal!
