Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga is set to unveil his running mate on Sunday ahead of the Monday deadline set by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Sources told Saturday Nation that Odinga will name his running mate in the August 9th elections during a mega rally to be held at the historic Kamukunji Grounds in Nairobi, where he is also expected to outline his manifesto.
On Thursday, the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition presidential running mate selection panel which is chaired by Dr. Noah Wekesa presented three names to Odinga for consideration.
The panel picked the three nominees from a list of 10 candidates who were interviewed for the position. They included Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Nark-Kenya leader Martha Karua, former presidential candidate Peter Kenneth, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya, and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho.
Others were Murang’a Woman Representative Sabine Chege, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui, and former Kenyan ambassador to Australia Stephen Tarus.
Wekesa said the candidates were ranked based on their political compatibility with Odinga, personality, loyalty, and their understanding of government and challenges facing Kenya.
Other factors include electability, the capacity of votes, electability, mobilization, transformative leadership, political tolerance, and technical expertise in political campaigns.

I predict it will be Martha…
I predict it will be Martha Karua if Raila want to remain a formidable force in this year’s election. In fact, the only choice there is remaining is Martha Karua. She carries both women vote and Central Kenya votes. Ruto Energizes young generation who may not remember what transpired in 2007 but majority of them don’t have votes and therefore they won’t vote. Martha Karua is good for Kenya because she is someone who can be bulled around. She will contain Uhuru Kenyatta against extending his authority beyond his term and will also keep Raila on check from introducing socialism in Kenya. Uhuru Kenyatta is retiring from politics. He still want to remain Kingpin of Mt Kenya region but he will have tough time maintaining control especially if Martha Karua is the second in command. On the other hand, Raila will find an ally in Martha Karua to detach himself from Uhuru Kenyatta’s policy as Kenyatta will not be able to manipulate Martha Karua behind the scene
