The Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) party has written to the Registrar of Political Parties seeking to exit the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party.
The Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi-led party says it wants to formally disengage from the coalition and withdraw its signature from the coalition agreement deposited in the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties this month.
PAA claims that it has not been involved in the coalition’s affairs, adding that it was unable to access the coalition agreement or understand its terms.
The party’s National Executive Council (NEC) also claims that it did not ratify the coalition agreement.
“The PAA NEC in a meeting held on 25th April 2022 resolved that the ratification of the agreement signed on 5th April 2022 be and is hereby declined,” the party says in a notice of denunciation to the Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu.
“Despite signing the agreement 20 days ago, no copies have been supplied…consequently, the intended membership of PAA party in Azimio coalition party howsoever ceases forthwith.”
PAA further stated that it has “never been and declines to be a member of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party.”
The Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition political party, which comprises 26 parties, was officially registered this and President Kenyatta gazetted as the Chairman of its national executive council while Raila Odinga was named as the party leader.
Other members of the executive council include Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua, Charity Ngilu, Gideon Moi, Hassan Joho, Naomi Shaban, Wafula Wamunyinyi, Sabina Chege, Abdi Noor Omar Farah and Junet Mohamed.
