Businesswoman Agnes Kagure has officially declared her bid for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the August 9th election.
Kagure says her bid for the Nairobi governor seat is informed by her desire to improve the living standards of Nairobi residents.
Citing her humble beginnings living in the city slums of Mathare and Dandora, the business lady said she has got first-hand experience of the kind of hardships Nairobi dwellers go through to make a living.
“I want to dedicate my life to improving Nairobi, to move you from the city of lamentation to the city of jubilation,” Kagure said during the launch of her bid at Kasarani Stadium on Friday.
Kagure unveiled a five-point plan she will use to transform the city to realize its potential as the region’s business hub if she wins the upcoming election.
Her plan focuses on improving safety, expanding manufacturing, creating jobs, revamping water sources, and reorganizing the city’s public transport.
“I will focus on providing clean water supply, good sanitation, and reliable healthcare services. Clean drinking water is a safe bet for better hygiene and access to it has an impact on the quality of human health,” said Kagure.
She further promised to improve safety and security across the city in order to reduce crime and encourage closer community policing.
Kagure also says she will partner with the private sector to establish new investments in the manufacturing sector and support SMEs.
The businesswoman joins a growing list of leaders eyeing the Nairobi governor seat including current Governor Anne Kananu, Senator Johnson Sakaja, Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi, Makadara MP George Aladwa, former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru, and Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) President Richard Ngatia.
