There was drama at the home of Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Wangui Ngirici on Monday morning after auctioneers came calling.
Accompanied by police officers, NSC auctioneers stormed the politician’s residence in Nairobi’s Runda estate and seized household items over a Sh3.9 million debt owed to a helicopter company.
They had been instructed by Flex Air Charters to seize and sell properties owned by Ngirici for failing to pay the amount after hiring its choppers in 2016.
The auctioneers did not take away the household items from Ngirici’s home after Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata intervened and promised to help settle the debt.
“Yes, the lawyer (Mr Kangata) agreed to drop a check at our office,” Timothy Owuor of NCS Auctioneers told Nation.
Ngirici hired helicopters from the company for her campaigns between May 8th and August 17th, 2016, incurring a cost of Sh5.9 million. She paid Sh2 million was left with a balance of Sh3.9 million.
Through lawyer Donald Kipkorir, Flex Air Charters moved to court seeking to compel Ngirici and her husband to pay the debt. The company won the case but the respondents refused to pay, prompting it to resort to auctioneers.
