Officials from the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) have questioned Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi over utterances he made a week ago.
Sudi was summoned by the commission on Monday to explain his claims regarding the dreaded Mungiki sect.
“I have met the NCIC officials, and I have explained to them why I made the remarks about Mungiki,” Sudi told the media on Monday.
Addressing reporters in Eldoret town on June 8th, Sudi alleged that there was a plot by unnamed top government officials to use Mungiki to cause violence in the Rift Valley region ahead of the 2022 general elections.
He said the plan entails driving a wedge between members of the Kikuyu and Kalenjin communities in a bid to scuttle Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential quest.
“We cannot allow the ugly things that we witnessed in the past to happen again. All of Kenya’s communities live in the Rift Valley.”
“Away from politics, we said we will never allow people to travel upcountry with beds tied to buses because of their ethnicity and fear of violence, we want lasting peace. So we are warning them that we are alert and we will not allow it,” Sudi was quoted.
The Rift Valley region was the hotspot of the 2007 post-election violence that saw over 1,000 Kenyans killed and more than 500,000 others displaced from the homes.
