Former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri has accused President Kenyatta of betraying him.
Speaking at Nanyuki PCEA Church on Sunday, Kiunjuri claimed that in the run-up to the 2017 elections, he entered into an agreement with Kenyatta to back his re-election bid.
As a result, Kiunjuri said, Uhuru convinced him to fold up his GNU party and drop his quest for Laikipia gubernatorial seat as he would be offered a plum government job once he is re-elected.
“I had GNU party but I was told to wrap it up and join Jubilee as a partner,” said Kiunjuri.
Kiunjuri said that by sacking him from Cabinet last month, Uhuru broke their agreement even as he maintained that he was not dismissed over incompetence.
“It is like telling someone traveling to Nairobi to abandon a boda-boda and board your new Prado but, upon reaching Karatina, you are harshly kicked out while it is raining.”
He added: “I had expressed interest in vying for the Laikipia gubernatorial seat but I was told in broad daylight to drop my bid and that I would be offered a plum job in government. I will now be jobless for the next three years.”
He further noted that his work at the Agriculture Ministry was derailed by underfunding, which meant no projects could be commissioned.
“You expect your wife to prepare meat three days a week yet you do not make available money to buy the meat. You cannot go out there accusing your wife of not preparing a meal of meat yet you do not give her the money. Those going around saying Kiunjuri failed in the Agriculture docket should pinpoint specific areas with proof.”
At the same time, Kiunjuri accused Uhuru’s administration of unfairly targeting him for raising issues affecting residents Mt. Kenya region.
“Who abused Uhuru more than Wanga [Gladys] or Joho [Hassan] or Babu Owino? They were forgiven…but every time Kiunjuri or Moses Kuria says ‘barabara Laikipia ni mbaya’, kesho yake uko DCI ama KRA ama EACC,” added Kiunjuri.
