There was a terror scare in Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) on Monday after a metallic box was left unattended along Tom Mboya Street near Odeon Cinema.
The box was abandoned a few meters from the location where an explosion occurred on Saturday evening, leaving two people injured.
The box had raised tension on the busy road that is mainly used as a bus terminus for most town service vehicles.
Police officers arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area before bomb experts carried away the box for analysis.
“The experts are doing their job. They carried away the box to be able to analyze it further in a contained environment,” says Nairobi Central Police Station OCPD Robinson Thuku.
Thuku says police are not taking any chances following Saturday evening’s explosion near the same area. The National Police Service has urged Kenyans to remain alert and be conscious of their surroundings.
Nairobi Regional Police Commander Philip Ndolo said a cart puller was given a small package to transport before it exploded as the owner disappeared.
The cart puller and a book vendor sustained injuries during the explosion. They have since been treated and discharged.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing but no suspect has been arrested.
