Opposition leader Raila Odinga and his wife Ida have on Thursday morning hosted outgoing United States ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec for a farewell breakfast.
The two welcomed the envoy at their home in Karen, Nairobi ahead of his departure from the country at the end of this month.
Godec, who has served as America’s representative in Kenya since 2012, leaves the country at the end of the month to allow his successor to take over.
The 63-year-old was appointed to the position by former US President Barack Obama in September 2012 and is the longest-serving American envoy to Kenya.
He will be replaced by former Illinois Senator, Kyle McCarter who was nominated to the position by President Donald Trump in March 2018.
McCarter and his wife Victoria have previously worked in Kenya for more than 30 years, having founded the Each1Feed1International Charity in Tharaka-Nithi County.
The NGO helps abandoned, abused and orphaned children and also provides a medical clinic for those with HIV and Malaria.
McCarter and Victoria can fluently converse in Swahili.

Good ridden. This is Kenya’s dark chapter. In order to get to us, they must use some of us. Robert Godec as an Ambassador of United States to Kenya behaved like a governor using Raila. He made public statements on behalf of Kenyans. He ganged western allies against Kenya on Kenya’s domestic issues. Telling Raila ” Do not Relent or Surrender”
This is our personal space that is a No go zone to foreignors. No foreigner should order us around or be behave like a governor in our country (we are not a colony). Our government must have strict “Rules of Engagement” With all representatives of foreign governments which must be agreed upon. Whoever comes to our country must represent the interest of his country and his country only and not be allowed to patronize us by pretending to represent our citizens.(We have our own representatives who are capable) Kenyans must wake up and know, no matter how these foreignors pretend, they cannot treat us any better than they treat the black population in their countries at home. In essence to them, we are “shit hole” countries “graveyard” and “Monkeys”.
Now we know our people are dying because Trump declared Jerusalem the capital of Israel. This is a good reason to leave the Dynasties behind. God save Kenya.
