14 Riverside Terror Attack: Kenya Red Cross Says 50 People Still Missing

The Kenya Red Cross Society says 50 people are still missing following Tuesday’s terror attack at dusitD2 Complex along 14 Riverside Drive in Nairobi’s Westlands area.

This comes hours after an operation by a joint security team to flush out the terrorists was concluded on Wednesday.

The Red Cross says it received 94 cases of missing persons on Tuesday but only 44 have since been accounted for.

“A total of 94 cases were reported missing as of 16th January 2019 at 1500hrs, 44 cases had been closed positively while 50 cases remain pending,” the body says in a statement.

Kenya Red Cross Secretary-General Abbas Gullet says records by his team show that 30 people sustained injuries during the attack that left 14 dead.

Addressing the nation on Wednesday, President Kenyatta has confirmed that 14 people lost their lives during the attack. He has also confirmed that all the gunmen involved in the attack have been eliminated.

“The security operation at Dusit is over and the terrorists eliminated. As of this moment, we have confirmation that 14 innocent lives were lost through the hands of these murderous terrorists with other injured,” says Kenyatta.

Somalia-based Islamic terror organization, Al-Shabab has since claimed responsibility for the attack.
