Detectives Grill Migori Governor Okoth Obado over University Student Sharon Otieno's Murder

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday questioned Migori Governor Okoth Obado over the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.

Governor Obado was grilled after he was summoned to DCI offices in Kisumu by detectives investigating the killing of the 26-year-old student.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Governor has not addressed the matter in person despite being adversely mentioned in the abduction and killing of Sharon. Instead, Obado through his spokesman Nicholas Anyuor distanced himself from the incident.

“Let police do the investigations and take necessary actions. Associating the governor with this incidence could be a political ploy meant to tarnish his name. Let the police do the investigations and take necessary actions,” Anyuor said.

Obado sent his lawyer Cliff Ombeta and a private pathologist Fredrick Otieno to witness a post-mortem examination carried out on Sharon’s body at Rachuonyo Level 4 Hospital mortuary on Friday.

Speaking to the Nation, lawyer Ombeta said Obado was represented during the autopsy to ensure that “nothing malicious goes on.”

“When you start hearing politicians start talking that the governor should be investigated and that they want him to be arrested because he is ultimately the master of the personal assistant (Michael Oyamo), you can see that there is intended malice,” Obado’s lawyer Ombeta said.

“These are people speaking out of ignorance and without facts, but just because they want to sharpen their axes to fight him. It is important then for a governor who has been adversely mentioned, falsely and without his side of the story not being taken, to have somebody to represent him so that nothing malicious goes on.”

Obado’s personal assistant Michael Oyamo, a prime suspect in the murder of Sharon, has been in police custody since last week and was scheduled to be arraigned in court on Tuesday.

  1. I am not a detective but in…
I am not a detective but in this matter the governor, his PA and the journalist are the prime suspect. I don’t understand how this guy/journalist jumped from a moving vehicle yet he was at the middle of the abductors and only suffered knee bruises.
May the Lord rest Sharon soul in peace.

  2. Obados lawyers had tried to…
Obados lawyers had tried to block DNA test on him ,claiming something like infingment of his privacy.I wonder if they know that that will nail their client.
If indeed Obado commited the crime at least was involved how could he reasonably expect to get away with it?.Could it be that after surviving political turmoil he thought that he was invincible?
Yes like some one has said here ,let the detectives not goof up on this one.

  3. In the public domain this…
In the public domain this Obando guy is obviously guilty. This case is very easy to solve to anyone without any basic knowledge in legal process. We know the motive; get rid of the baby and the mother. They ripped the baby out of the mother’s womb and poured acid on it with the hope of possibly getting rid of the DNA. Very crude to say the least. These detectives, police and prosecutors can dance all they want in the peripherals without getting to the core of the matter BUT they are only fooling themselves not the public. This Obando guy should be spending day 7 in jail but either way, his political career is essentially over just like the Mwiti MP guy who raped someone’s wife few years ago.

  4. Ombeta, what’s his side of…
Ombeta, what’s his side of the story? He has said nothing, he hires an attorney and has a representative at the autopsy; and you’re telling us this is a political ploy? This governor should be prosecuted to the highest extent of the law so that other fat cats flushing people’s money and committing all manner of crimes can learn a lesson. DCI guys, don’t screw this one up. You owe the family of Sharon and Kenyans, a good measure of justice.

  5. It is a mockery of the LAW…
It is a mockery of the LAW to have this Okoth Obado still running loose. He clearly had the intent, motive and means to effect the killing of his mpango wa kando (Sharon) and his unborne baby. He must be charged with two counts of murder at the least. Him and his co conspirators are ideal candidates for DEATH BY HANGING.

  6. Corrupt politicians as usual…
Corrupt politicians as usual. Since the justice system is for sale they have figured out how to get away with major crimes. And so it goes. Poor Kenyans. Wake up good people.

  7. The prime suspect Oyamo will…
The prime suspect Oyamo will put you in the mix. How do you conspire to have people kill your own seed. If you slept with Sharon without protection, what did you expect?
