United States Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec on Tuesday paid National Super Alliance (Nasa) leader Raila Odinga a courtesy call at his capitol hill office in Nairobi.
The meeting comes two weeks after the Opposition leader entered into a unity agreement with President Kenyatta following months of fireworks.
Kenyatta and Odinga said the truce was aimed at uniting the country that had been left divided after the highly contested 2017 presidential elections.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM)leader said he discussed national reconciliation with the Washington envoy among other matters.
“We discussed the national reconciliation initiative and how there can be no progress without justice. The US has pledged to support us as a people as we proceed with the task of righting the wrongs that have ailed our nation for too long,” Raila said.
Godec had been leading other foreign diplomats in calling for dialogue between President Uhuru and the Opposition chief following a political impasse arising from last year’s disputed presidential polls.
Odinga and the Opposition had declared they would not recognise Kenyatta as President, saying he lacked legitimacy.
Nasa coalition had earlier this year asked US President Trump administration to recall Godec, claiming that he has been taking government’s side on different issues, while ignoring Opposition’s stand.

Raila, don’t you have your own stand on Kenya and African issues? Why do you always need foreigners when dealing with issues involving Kenyans. This is sad. No wonder Kenyans cannot trust you.

This is the Raila who was recently telling Godec to stay out of Kenya’s business. His supporters were calling for the removal of Godec at the same time burning USA flag. Uyu ni ugwati!!
