Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has warned that Kenya will go the South Sudan or Somalia way if President Kenyatta does not agree to dialogue with the opposition before January 30th.
Speaking on Saturday when he handed a nomination certificate to Edith Nyenze to contest for Kitui West parliamentary by-election, the National Super Alliance (Nasa) principal said dialogue is the only means to prevent a civil unrest like that witnessed in the two countries.
Kalonzo said agreeing to dialogue with Nasa will not make the president weak but will instead make him a wise leader.
“You are not weak if you read the mood in the country and show leadership. If we don’t hold dialogue now, the type of dialogue we shall be holding after January 30th will be the Somalia and the South Sudan type of dialogue. Is that where we want to take this country?” Kalonzo posed.
“If we don’t hold dialogue between now and January 30th we will hold dialogue under very difficult circumstances,” Musyoka further warned.
Last week, the government through spokesman Eric Kiraithe declared the planned inauguration of the opposition leader as a violation of the Constitution and warned of consequences.
“The Constitution of this country is very clear. The law is very clear,” he said during his weekly briefing to journalists on Thursday.
“Anybody who says he will break the law…should expect consequences within the law,” said Kiarithe.
