Former United States President Barack Obama and United Nation boss Antonio Guterres are among top world leaders who have been invited to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s swearing-in ceremony.
The President will take the Oath of Office at a ceremony to he held at Kasarani Stadium on Tuesday in presence of Chief Justice David Maraga.
The Prime Minister of Malta Joseph Muscat, in his capacity as the Commonwealth chairman is also expected to grace the fete that will mark President Uhuru’s second term in office.
“A blanket invitation has been sent out to all heads of State from Africa and other parts of the world. As of now, it’s difficult to tell who will attend, but as a tradition, most of those under the AU will be present,” An official in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told the Star.
At a media briefing outside Kasarani Stadium on Tuesday, Joseph Irungu, who chairs a subcommittee of President’s Assumption of Power Committee, said several diplomats and heads of states across the world are expected.
“It is a little early to come to who exactly will attend, but the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is handling the invitation,” Irungu, who is also the Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, said.
