Six former powerful figures in retired President Kibaki’s administration have defied odds to bounce back to political stage, after spending some years in the ‘dark’.

Some of the notable figures who made a resounding comeback include former Cabinet Ministers Amos Kimunya and Njeru Ndwiga.

Kibaki’s nephew Ndiritu Muriithi and former Party of National Unity leader Jeremiah Kioni also returned to the stage so is former Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara.

Former finance Minister Amos Kimunya has returned to the National Assembly to represent the people of Kipipiri constituency, five years after he was ousted. Kimunya triumphed by garnering 30,663 votes against his closest challenger Raphael Njoroge who polled 11,946 votes.

Ex-secretary to the Cabinet grand Francis Kimemia has also made a grand comeback and was overwhelmingly voted as the new Nyandarua governor.

In Embu, former Cooperative minister in the Kibaki administration, Njeru Ndwiga captured the senatorial seat after five years in the cold.

Jeremiah Kioni, a pertinent character in Kibaki’s PNU party has been elected Ndaragwa after exiting political stage as Musalia Mudavadi’s running mate in 2013 general elections.

Kioni has been in the political cold together with Muriithi, a former assistant minister in the Kibaki government, who has captured the Laikipia gubernatorial race as an independent in a closely contested poll against Jubilee’s Irungu Mwangi.

Former Naivasha MP, Jane Kihara who controversially lost it in the 2007 General Election, recaptured her seat after garnering 83, 573 votes against Solomon’s Ndegwa’s 25, 821.
