Passengers arriving from India will be required to self-isolate for 14 days upon arrival in Kenya, the government has said.
This comes after the government issued a 14-day ban on flights originating from India following a surge in COVID-19 deaths and infections in the Asian nation, fueled by a new highly infectious and deadly strain.
“All passengers arriving from India within these 72 hours shall be subjected to rapid antigen testing upon arrival at our ports of entry and shall be required to strictly observe a 14-day quarantine period that will be closely monitored by our health officials,” said Health CS Mutahi Kagwe while announcing the ban on Wednesday.
New guidelines published by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council (KMPDC) indicate that travelers coming to Kenya from India must self-isolate in designated hotels at their own cost.
The travelers, who must arrive in the country before Saturday midnight when the ban takes effect, will pay between Sh98,000 and Sh182,000 for 14-day isolation in the designated hotels.
The cheapest of the 10 hotels is charging Sh7,000 per night and Sh13,000 for the most expensive.
Ufungamano Guest House and Strand Leisure Hotel are the cheapest, charging Sh7,000 per night or Sh98,000 in 14 days.
Hilton Garden Inn (Sh13,000 per night) is the most expensive followed by Waridi Paradise Hotel and Suites (Sh10,000), Royal Tulip (Sh10,000), and Ngong Hills Hotel (Sh9,000).
